You Can Put A Stop To Them!

Everyone seems to complain about getting calls about Medicare all the time. Is your phone ringing off the hook? Are you receiving calls prior to 8 am or after 9 pm?

Are you on the Do Not Call list but still getting calls?

These calls violate FCC guidelines and YOU CAN STOP THEM!

What Can You Do?

The first step is to register your phone number with the National Do Not Call registry.

If you haven’t listed your phone number with the National Do Not Call (DNC) registry, follow these easy steps:

  • Complete the online registry at www.DoNotCall.gov
  • Verify your registration by doing either of the following
    • Open the confirmation email or
    • Call 1-888-382-1222 from the phone you wish to register.
  • Wait the required 31 days

After these steps you can file complaints.

How Do I File A Complaint?

If you are listed on the DNC registry and have not requested information from an agent or Medicare provider, these calls may be in violation of FCC policy.

You will need the date and time of the offending call to file a complaint online at:

This is a little bit of work but if everyone who complains about all the Medicare calls actually files a complaint, they may slow down or stop altogether.

Things To Remember

If you call Medicare and/or Social Security and request a callback, that is the only situation where they will call you.

Medicare plans do not change at all during the calendar year. Once the plans are finalized with CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) they are done. They start in January and end December 31st. There are people who call seniors in June and want to tell them about the new changes in Medicare plans. That’s just a way to get you talking and get some information out of you.

If someone calls you offering you some extra benefit, like implants for example, be weary of their motives. Benefits like that sometimes come with a cost. You may lose the ability to see your current doctors.

If you ever have any questions about your Medicare plan or any extra benefits you wish you had, call a local broker. Calling an 800 number you saw on TV won’t connect you to someone who has your best interest at heart. The person you talk to on the phone may not be there in a few months or even next year.

Your Medicare plan should be your choice. If you ever feel like you’re being talked into something, take a break and make the decision on another day. There are agents who only sell plans from a single company. Find a broker who offers a variety of plans and represents multiple companies.

Never give out your personal information or Medicare number to someone who calls you to talk about Medicare. Treat your Medicare number like your Social Security number.

Legitimate brokers don’t cold call people.
